Trippin in Taschen

Discovered a Taschen store on Rue de Buci. The books on display were absolutely amazing. Some were as big as 36″x24″x6″….but none were as ‘big’ as the Big Penis Book. There it was, prominently displayed in the middle of the photography section. My friends and I thought it would be a tasteful exploration of phallic representations. Wrong! I’m traumatized…moving along.

A book of photography by Ellen von Unwerth–though just as overtly sexual–truly has the most beautiful photography. Here are some fit to print:

Obscenity seemed to be the running theme (even by French standards), but Terryworld took it to another level. The book attempts to encapsulate the 70s porn aesthetic, and in doing so aggressively crosses the threshold between  sensationalism to full-blow exploitation. I still loved it.

Other noteables are LaChapelle’s Artists and Prostitutes and Helmut Newton’s Sumo.
