The Dreamers

This film by Bertolucci is a work of art. The puritan American in me normally shies away from NC-17 films, but the twisted relationships in this film are captured so artistically that it leaves the viewer captivated rather than appalled. The story about a young American studying in Paris is cliche by itself, but Bertolucci‘s exploration of his relationship with French twins set against the back-drop of the 1968 student riots makes it extrordinary. As with his other films (Stealing Beauty and Last Tango in Paris), this film is filled with sensuality, whether it be the acting, images or soundtrack. I can already tell I will be thinking about this film for days.
