Bonnaroo Preview

Rcrd Lbl has pulled together a nice little sampler of the bands playing at Bonnaroo this coming weekend. Realizing that the likes of Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket, Pretty Lights and Robyn will be there, makes me wish I was going!

Urban prayer

I just finished this mix of tunes called ‘Urban Prayer’ (inspired by a conversation on a Brooklyn rooftop), replete with tracks that have served as the soundtrack to my new life in NYC. Mostly new songs, with a few oldies thrown in for good measure. Enjoy!

Dazed Digital’s Top 100

Here is a list Dazed Digital’s 100 best artists from 2010. I have to say, this is quite an eclectic collection that at evokes past decades, especially the 70s…or maybe that is the just the first few songs! I’m still working my way through the list, but already found this list worth sharing.  Enjoy!

Urushi Musical Interface

This amazing instrument is Yuri Suzuki‘s Urushi Musical Interface, created for the exhibition ‘Collacqueration: designed in the UK – lacquered in japan‘ organized by Emiko Oki. This is truly something out of the future (maybe inspired by Tron!?) For more information and images about how the instrument was made, visit the designboom website here.

Holy F*ck at Fleche d’Or

One of my new favorite bands, Holy F*ck will be playing at one of my favorite venues, Flech d’Or, this Monday, November 22. Check out the ‘dynamic eclectro-noise pop,’ which characterizes the group, such as in songs like Silva & Grimes, from their latest full-length release, Latin, here:

‘Pleasure from the Buddha Group’

When that’s the name of the recording company, you know you’re in for something good. This song, “Rubber Band,” by the Trammps from the Zing Album (1975), is exactly what I like to wake up to on weekends. You might recognize it from samples by The Game in ‘Hate it or Love it’ or J [...]

1 bit symphony

Tristan Perich’s 1-Bit Symphony is an electronic composition in five movements on a single microchip. Though housed in a CD jewel case like his first circuit album (1-Bit Music 2004-05), 1-Bit Symphony is not a recording in the traditional sense; it literally “performs” its music live when turned on. A complete electronic circuit—programmed by the [...]

Black Keys at Le Pompon

Prior to their sold out show at the Bataclan, the Black Keys put on an impromptu party at Le Pompon, a gorgeous new hot spot in Paris  (which feels more like a NY bar than anything I have been to in Continental Europe). They worked the decks from 8pm – 2am, amidst a sweaty and [...]
