‘Cube Light’

A new installation by the Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei–who also brought us the Sunflower Seeds at the Tate Modern–has been erected in the new Misa Shin Gallery in Tokyo. It looks absolutely incredible (more photos can be found at the Tokyo Art Beat website). I can’t wait to see one of his works in [...]

Urushi Musical Interface

This amazing instrument is Yuri Suzuki‘s Urushi Musical Interface, created for the exhibition ‘Collacqueration: designed in the UK – lacquered in japan‘ organized by Emiko Oki. This is truly something out of the future (maybe inspired by Tron!?) For more information and images about how the instrument was made, visit the designboom website here.

‘Pleasure from the Buddha Group’

When that’s the name of the recording company, you know you’re in for something good. This song, “Rubber Band,” by the Trammps from the Zing Album (1975), is exactly what I like to wake up to on weekends. You might recognize it from samples by The Game in ‘Hate it or Love it’ or J [...]

1 bit symphony

Tristan Perich’s 1-Bit Symphony is an electronic composition in five movements on a single microchip. Though housed in a CD jewel case like his first circuit album (1-Bit Music 2004-05), 1-Bit Symphony is not a recording in the traditional sense; it literally “performs” its music live when turned on. A complete electronic circuit—programmed by the [...]

Coachella Countdown begins

I included this link in my last post, then realized it deserves a post all of its own! This amazing video by Sam O’Hare captures Coachella in a way you’ve never seen before (and is now featured on the festival’s website!) O’Hare wanted to  “portray a unique view of the incomparable Coachella experience. Following the [...]
