MAC/VAL – Let’s Dance!

MAC/VAL | Musée d’art contemporain du Val-de-Marne could be my new favorite contemporary art museum in Paris. It is definitely a trek to get to its location in the south-west of Paris (take line 8, exit liberte, then jump on the 180 bus for 30 min), but once there, you will be treated with a [...]

Runaway

Kanye West’s short film ‘Runaway‘  features the story of a Phoenix who falls to earth, falls in love, then returns to the sky. While the narrative is disjointed, and the images at times a bit perplexing (e.g. the Michael Jackson float being led by a marching band), in the end what West delivers is nothing [...]

ABOVE

“A picture is worth 1,000 words.” I sat for a while considering if I should describe this piece and the multi-layered meanings depicted in the painting?! The stencil and symbolism in the painting take on some heavy current topics of social, political, and racial issues just to name a few. I decided it’s best for [...]

Is This Love?

I love this rendition of Bob Marley’s “Is This Love?” by Bilal (with support from pals in Vosotros). Makes me want to investigate this “neo-jazz/soul” genre for other hidden gems.

My Princess Boy

This children’s book, written by Cheryl Kilodavis, was inspired by the growing pains her family experienced while raising a “FABULOUS!” son. Check out the video of their touching TV interview  after the jump. The world would be such an amazing place if parents were this accepting and nurturing! What an inspiration.

Now and Then

Four months of work, 5000×1200 resolution, 2x Christie 18K HD projectors bring us this amazing video by themacula.com, duber.cz and michalkotek.com. It features a video-mapping show projected by avmedia.cz against the face of the famous Astronomical Clock in Prague, as part of city’s celebration of the clock’s 600th anniversary. Upon its creation in medieval times, [...]

Sunflower Seeds at the Tate

The amazing sunflower seed exhibition at the Tate Modern in London, has been closed due to “too much dust!” I was really looking forward to seeing this work by Chinese artist, Ai Weiwei. The exhibit features 100 million pieces of painted porcelain and is meant to create dialogue about the concept “made in China.” Visitors [...]

Miss Havisham Cake

Love this! “Great Expectations, the Miss Havisham Cake,” a crazy, vermin-infested caked created by the Hotham Street Ladies Art Collective submitted to the Melbourne Cake Show was disqualified on grounds of “bad taste.” So creative though!

Power

Kinda obsessed with Kanye West’s performance on SNL. If it isn’t the best, it is certainly one of the best I’ve ever seen. Love the monochrome. Love the choreography. Love the set design. Love the ballet dancers. Costumes. Even the song. The list goes on… Enjoy!

Love this new song/music video for ‘Holiday Romace’ by the band Detachments. Seems a bit inspired by Jean-Luc Godard.

Missoni a burner!

“PARIS — ‘It’s inspired by us at Burning Man,” said Margherita Missoni, referring to her friends Eugenie Niarchos and Tatiana Santo Domingo and their exploits at the ultimate hippie festival in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.” – NYTimes (full article here) Hmm…not how I remembered it, but love the source of inspiration!
